Men who have sexual attraction to the opposite sex and same-sex or bisexual men have often been regarded as being confused on his sexual orientation and more regarded as a male homosexual.
Recent research by a team from Northwestern University reveals otherwise. According to the study did have bisexual male sexual arousal towards each other or opposite sex.
The study was conducted on 100 men in the Chicago area, whether identified as heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual, the same amount. In contrast to other studies on bisexuality, in this study using more stringent criteria to identify bisexuality.
Bisexual men in this study were those who had sexual intercourse with a minimum of two people in each gender and having a romantic relationship for three months or more with a pair of two genders.
The study participants were then fitted with sensors on their genitals to measure the level of erection when they watch the video intimacy male or female.
The result is known bisexual men claim to feel aroused by both the video. This was reinforced by the results of genital sensors. Meanwhile, homosexual and heterosexual men do not feel the same response.
Even so, Dr.Lisa Diamond, a psychologist who was not involved in the study, argues that measuring the level of erection can not actually reveal about a person's sexual orientation. The parameters in this study may be more appropriate to determine the actual experiences of bisexual men.
The experts who commented on the study said it is too narrow if the size of bisexual men was based on sexual stimulation received.
"A person can express his sexual tendencies in many ways. Not that if we saw a man aroused and also a woman then we are bisexual," said Ellyn Ruthstrom, chairman of the Bisexual Resource Center in Boston. (M05-11)
